The
Rev. David John DeSmith, Priest/Rector, grew up in the Finger Lakes
area of western New York (near Rochester, his home diocese). He
raised sheep as a young boy and so still finds himself to be a
shepherd to the flock. He received the Bachelor of Music Education
degree from SUNY, Potsdam, and subsequently taught public school
music for 14 years.
In 1987, as a convert to the
Episcopal Church, he entered Bexley Hall Episcopal Seminary in
Rochester, NY and graduated with the Master of Divinity degree in
1990. He was ordained a deacon in June of that same year and later
ordained a priest in February of 1991.
Before coming to St. David’s in
October of 2003, David served churches in Western Massachusetts as
well as in Easton, Maryland, where he served as Interim Dean of
Trinity Cathedral. His particular parish passions include
preaching, pastoral care, stewardship and congregational development
with a focus on mission strategy. David’s hobbies include hiking,
writing, reading, playing the piano, singing, and sitting in a
rocking chair near any body of water.
